Château de Montjézieu, overlooking the Lot valley

Château de Montjézieu is located in the former commune of Montjézieu, now part of La Canourgue in Lozère. The village and its castle overlook the Lot Valley.

The Château de Montjézieu has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1971.
Although the cause of its destruction is unknown, vestiges of the former fortified castle (gate and adjacent walls) remain.
It was destroyed prior to the construction of the seigniorial residence, built outside the enclosure. The new building was equipped with a sentry walk, part of which was used for both observation and shooting.
The château consists of several parts: a long tower with a sentry walk, two adjacent buildings to the east of the tower and, to the north, ruined walls with adjoining buildings. The tower still has chimneys. The stair turret, located in the south-west corner of the small courtyard, rises one storey above the tower and two storeys above the buildings. The upper part of the turret has been converted into a dovecote.

Since 1957, four generations of the same family have been working to restore the château to its former glory.
