"Windows on the landscape" is an artistic adventure led by the association "Behind the porthole" and the Compostela Trails Agency.
Nine territories and about twenty actors are involved in an ambitious cooperation project, from Haute-Loire to Lozère, from Aveyron to Lot, from Tarn-et-Garonne to Gers, with the desire to (re)discover the paths through contemporary creation, to create moments of astonishment in the landscapes that surround us and to create a link between inhabitants and walkers.
Super-Cayrou is the first of the art-refuge works to emerge from the earth and know-how.
Initiated by the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy and "Behind the porthole" and designed by the artist-architect collective "Encore Heureux" and Peter Dijkstra, it was built in dry stone and lauzes by a team of craftsmen-builders coordinated by Vincent Caussanel.
Super-Cayrou is located in Gréalou in the Lot, site of the Pech Laglaire, near the GR65.
The site was chosen for its exceptional heritage character.
There is a thousand-year-old history there, that of the three dolmens of Pech Laglaire, one of which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the serial property "Paths to Santiago de Compostela in France".
A promise of nights under the stars in the Black Triangle of Quercy and on the Routes to Santiago de Compostela, a refuge for contemplating a 360° landscape and admiring the setting sun on the cliffs of the Célé Valley, a shelter allowing visitors, hikers and pilgrims to take a break in the middle of nature.
The entrepreneur : Vincent Caussanel
"This project of the architectural firm "Encore heureux" aroused my interest from the moment it was presented. To realize a building entirely in dry stone where several techniques are used and in local stones, it had to be done. Following the experimental project on the reopening of extraction sites led by the P.N.R. du Quercy in Grézes we were able to use this stone. This choice was made because we knew that on the same site we would have lauze, monoliths and building stone", explains Vincent Caussanel .
The extraction required 70 hours of work to extract and sort 115 tons of stone.
In 2021, 4 new works of art-refuge will see the light of day following artist and architect residencies in Golinhac (12), Livinhac-le-Haut (12), in the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy (46) and in La Romieu (32).
The capacity is 2 alcoves for 2 people.
Open all year round without reservation.
