Situated one kilometre from the centre of Collonges-la-Rouge – also known as ‘the town of 25 towers’ due to its numerous medieval alleyways, castles and fortified towers – the Château de Vassinhac was built in the 16th century
Originally the residence of the Vassinhac family, the governors of the viscounty of Turenne, this magnificent historic residence was listed as a historic monument in 1932, then restored over several years from 2013 onwards.
Built entirely of red sandstone, it houses treasures such as period furniture – some of which belonged to Colette – and the Louis XVI drawing room.
A spiral staircase leads to a vaulted cellar which recounts the history of the monument’s restoration, whilst a film is dedicated to Collonges-la-Rouge and life at the château.
It features elegant pepper-pot towers, watchtowers and arrow slits, bearing witness to its fortified past.
The château is open for self-guided tours, allowing visitors to explore its furnished rooms, vaulted cellars and grounds. The owners, Nathalie and Éric Faige-Dueymes, also offer three luxurious guest rooms combining comfort and charm. The property also provides access to an outdoor swimming pool.
The château is open to visitors every day from 10.00 to 19.00.
