For the layman, Aubagne is Marcel Pagnol. It's also clay and the Légion étrangère.
But that's not all.
Aubagne also boasts an architectural heritage dating back to the 11th century.
Aubagne's old town, an ancient medieval square surrounded by 14th-century ramparts, boasts a number of interesting monuments, including the Porte Gachiou (the main of the city's seven entrances), the 11th-century Eglise Saint-Sauveur, the Tour de l'Horloge, the triangular Observance bell tower, the Chapelle des Pénitents Noirs and the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs...
The narrow streets and shady squares of the old town center make it a typical Mediterranean town. Particularly worth seeing are rue Torte, rue Rastègue, rue du Four, place Joseph Rau, place de Guin, mansions with colorful facades or ornamentation typical of the 16th and 17th centuries - Hôtel de Bausset, Hôtel des Royalistes - old balconies, doors and knockers, the 18th-century bread oven...
As you can see, Aubagne has no shortage of tourist and heritage attractions.

Clay, santons and ceramics...
In the land of earthen arts, santonniers and céramistes are artists with hands of clay: their workshops are open to you, their creations turned and shaped before your very eyes: santons, figurines, unique pieces, crockery, earthenware, decorations...
Come and meet them, and discover a rich history where earth meets fire. Depending on the workshop, "self-guided tours" or "tours by appointment only" are available.
