A museum in nature, the Maeght Foundation brings together one of the most important European collections of 20th century art.
On the heights of the French Riviera in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, in a superb architectural setting designed by the Catalan architect Josef Lluis Sert, nestles a jewel of modern and contemporary art.
In a garden of sculptures, you will meet Miro, Calder, Chagall, Giacometti,... but also an agora, a labyrinth, mosaics, exhibition rooms opening on sunny terraces, to the sound of cicadas.
A story of family and friendship
The Maeght Foundation is a story of family and friendship between Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, visionary art dealers, and their artist friends. It was the first independent art foundation in France, conceived in 1964. Their artist friends personally participated in its conception and realization, each appropriating a space in the future foundation. Thus Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder or Fernand Léger found an ideal place of creation where the rooms and gardens interact in perfect harmony.
The Maeght Foundation is dedicated, according to the will of its founders, to the creation of our time. During temporary exhibitions, only a selection from the permanent collection is exhibited. From its collections, many exhibitions are also organized each year in museums in France and abroad.
The names of the rooms are a tribute to the artists and do not refer to the works exhibited there.
Currently and until November 14, 2021, the Maeght Foundation presents the exhibition "The Giacomettis: a family of creators," a unique reunion of five artists from the same family, all masters in their field: from modern sculpture, to Swiss post-impressionist painting, through architecture and design.
