" Le fils à Jo ", cinema and rugby in Tarn

" Le Fils à Jo " is a French film written and directed by Philippe Guillard, in 2011.

Grandson of a rugby legend, son of a legend, and himself a rugby legend, Jo Canavaro raises his 13-year-old son, Tom, alone in a small village in the Tarn.

Much to Jo's chagrin, Tom is as good at maths as he is at playing. For a Canavaro, the legend can't stop there, even if it means setting up a rugby team for Tom against the will of the whole village and that of his son himself...

Shooting in the Tarn

Director Philippe Guillard is a great connoisseur of the world of rugby. A former top-level player, he played in particular as a three-quarters left-wing player at the Racing Club de France, then became a journalist, scriptwriter and writer.

He also hosted the Night of Rugby.

He revealed his talent for comedy on television, notably through his "technical gestures" on Canal+ at half-time during rugby matches.

"Le Fils à Jo" is his first feature film.

The film was shot for the most part in the Tarn, the department of origin of Vincent Moscato, "Pompon" in the film, former player of the Gaillac Athletic Union.

The rugby training scenes were shot in Salvagnac, 18 km from Gaillac.

The release of the film had been anticipated in the South West of France on 29 December 2010, for a national release on 12 January 2011.

The wedding dinner scene is marked by the presence of many rugby personalities, including Guy Novès, Fabien Pelous and Philippe Bernat-Salles.

Even if he doesn't have Jo Canavaro's record of achievements, Gérard Lanvin played rugby for 10 years, in the minime, cadet and junior categories.

He played in the three-quarter wing position.
