The Almond and Macaroon Museum

As a tribute to the generations of artisans who built the reputation of Montmorillon, City of the Macaroon, the Maison Rannou-Métivier opened an Almond and Macaroon Museum in 2003.
Today, Maison Rannou-Métivier is the oldest Macaroon factory in Montmorillon according to a traditional recipe that has remained unchanged for more than 150 years and that has been passed down in the same family for 5 generations with the same know-how and the same passion.
The Macaroon has been present since the 17th century and over the centuries has become the unavoidable speciality of the town.
The Museum proposes the discovery of the history of the macaroon through several thematic areas: cultivation of the almond tree, the richness of the almond, the manufacture of the macaroon....
It will also delight children thanks to the many visual, sound, taste and olfactory supports. The visit, translated into English, will awaken all the senses for an interactive discovery.

To see in particular a model of a 19th century confectionery and the old macaroon oven dating from 1950.
