Michel Piccoli in the Gers and Milou in May...

This film, released in 1990, is one of Louis Malle's last productions, at the end of one of the most diverse and enjoyable careers in French cinema.
From the new wave to Hollywood, from burlesque comedy, from Zazie in the subway to the film noir "Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud" (Elevator for the Scaffold), as well as documentaries and historical films, he swept all genres and all universes with constant talent and success : Palme d'Or and Oscar for the best documentary with Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1954 for "The World of Silence", Louis Delluc prize in 1957 for "Elevator to the Scaffold" then in 1987 for "Au revoir les enfants", Lion d'Or in 1980 for "Atlantic City" then in 1987.

The film
Filmed in the Gers, at the Château du Calaoué, Milou en Mai is a story of succession in a country house in the Gers. The film evokes the wind of freedom caused by May 68.
An old lady dies in a large house in the South-West.
Her son, Milou, who is sixty years old and takes care of the property, summons for the funeral his brother Georges and his sister-in-law Lily, his niece Claire, his own daughter Camille and the rest of the family.
But it is May 1968.
For two weeks Paris has been on fire and blood.
Built in 1620, the Château du Calaoué is the site where the film was shot.
Michel Piccoli and Miou Miou are the stars of the film.
Valérie Lemercier in the role of Mrs. Boutelleau will have made one of her first film appearances and the journalist Stéphane Paoli plays the role of Jacques Paoli, her own father.
This was the last film in which Bruno Carette appeared before he died on December 8, 1989 of a devastating leukoencephalitis.
The film was widely rewarded: César for Best Supporting Female Role for Dominique Blanc and César nomination for Best Actor for Michel Piccoli, Best Actress for Miou-Miou and Best Supporting Male Role for Michel Duchaussoy in 1991.

Note the participation of Georges Vaur dit Piroulet, an actor, singer, humorist and southerner.
