The Story
In 1832, cholera decimated Provence, leaving a trail of corpses grimacing with suffering. Angelo, an Italian hussar pursued by the Austrians for his revolutionary activities, nevertheless took the time to treat the innocent victims. He also takes the time to silently love the young Pauline, who is on the road in search of a mysterious husband. Invulnerable and pure, he faces all dangers...
On the radio too... with Gérard Philipe and Jeanne Moreau...
In addition to the film, André Bourdil, painter, art critic, journalist, radio man and a close friend of Giono's, undertook to make a masterful nude radio adaptation of it, which was broadcast for the first time on the French national channel RDF on 11 February 1953. The main characters were played by Gérard Philipe and Jeanne Moreau.
