Located in Château-Arnoux, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, between Manosque and Sisteron, the hotel-restaurant "La Bonne Étape" is aptly named. Under the leadership of Jany Gleize, Michelin-starred chef and owner, the site is celebrating this year the 50th anniversary of its "Relais et Châteaux" affiliation. The restaurant's menu, which is constantly renewed, features signature dishes concocted by the chef and his brigade throughout the winter.
When fate gets involved...
"Once upon a time", once upon a time, a motorcyclist, Pierre Gleize, broke down near Château-Arnoux. He is a confectioner, and crosses the path of Arlette Rey, whose family owns the post house, dating from the 18th century, converted into an inn in the course of time. Love at first sight... The site became the "Bonne Etape" and from this union was born Jany Gleize... And soon, Jane, Jany's daughter, will take over.
Jany Gleize, Provence above all
Near the country of Les Mées, the Lure Mountain, the Valensole plateau, the Luberon, the Verdon Gorges, Jany Gleize has been "bathed" in the authenticity of Provence since childhood. Jean Giono, the song of the cicadas and the smell of lavender permeate the place. And the cuisine, of course... The cuisine is gourmet, fine and tasty and benefits from the exceptional products that Jany Gleize has cultivated in her vegetable garden. A garden that can be visited and which reflects the owner's love for natural products, some of which are rare... The first vegetable garden was the work of his grandfather, a farmer who cultivated a well-ordered garden. Today, Jany offers an English-style garden with a strong Provencal accent where flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs and organic plants grow... We almost do permaculture," explains Jany Gleize, "we let nature work...". Jany Gleize also makes her own oil, about 100l in good years.
Hotel and restaurant...
Rather than detailing the menu, which is excellent, and praising the magnificent assets of the place, we prefer to invite you to visit the website. In case you missed it, a dessert left us a memory..., but a memory. It is the famous lavender honey ice cream served in its hive. Taste it. We can't pass up the Fleur de zucchini au bonheur du jour, the Châteauroux trout marinated in garden fennel, the Sisteron lamb fillet and chop with carrots and greens, savory juice, the hare à la Royale for example. Go there with confidence.
To help her guests discover the wonders of her region, Jany Gleize also offers experiences around the hotel, wine tourism, discovery of the virtues of lavender, exploration of the Gorges du Verdon...
