The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, has chosen to celebrate the Heritage Days 2020 in Condom in the Gers.
The Hôtel de Polignac was one of the first monuments selected by the Fondation du Patrimoine and Stéphane Bern.
Classified as a historical monument since 1990, the Hôtel de Polignac is now a school.
The magnificent building, built between 1773 and 1777, has already been restored with the help of the Town Hall of Condom and the Fondation du Patrimoine.
The Hôtel de Polignac has architectural details that show the emergence of the neo-classical style.
It is built on a plan "between courtyard and garden", the entrance being on the street side, through a courtyard closed by a Doric portico and wrought iron gates.
The facade on the courtyard is very elegant, with its large arched bays on the first floor, the central forecourt clearly marked by fluted Ionic columns supports a wrought-iron balcony and then a large triangular pediment.
On the south side, the concrete courtyard has replaced the large interior garden suspended above the line of the ramparts.
Built in blond limestone, the construction was completed shortly before the Revolution.
The confiscation of the Clergy's property deprived Abbot Dorlan de Polignac of his enormous income. He kept the hotel until his death, but his heirs were forced to sell it to two Condomese merchants.
Inside, the Hôtel de Polignac is furnished and decorated with Aubusson tapestries. Gypseries decorate the walls of the rooms of the Hotel, the big staircase and the banister are intact and some fireplaces are decorated with stuccoes.
The Hotel is bought by the Condomois, Bernard Laterrade whose family keeps it until the XIXth century.
Then it was sold to the municipality to house a school for boys on August 10, 1882.
