The Château de Lacypierre is located in the heart of the Périgord Noir region, 12 km from Sarlat in the village of Saint-Crépin-et-Carlucet, known for its Romanesque church, its 16th-century presbytery, its wash house, and its typical houses.
A little history…
It bears the name of the Benié de Lacypierre family, who in 1462 took possession of this fiefdom, which had belonged to the Ferrières family, minor noble knights and vassals of the seigneury of Salignac.
On the site of the old fortified house, of which only a 13th-century vaulted cellar remains, they built this residence at the very beginning of the 16th century. In the 17th century, they added the balustraded balcony and the dormer windows with triangular pediments topped by three stone balls centered on mullioned wooden windows. In the 18th century, a small pavilion was added to the rear of the square tower.
The last representative of this family, Guillaume Benié de Lacypierre (1734-1826), was a bodyguard to Louis XV and Louis XVI, then aide-de-camp to Philippe de Noailles, Duke of Mouchy.
His grandson, Julien Lavergne de Cerval, was responsible for the gardens of Marqueyssac, located near the estate.
Sold in 1846 to the Malbec family, who eventually resided in the château for over a century before selling it in 1968 to the Lebon-Hénault family. It is therefore a residence that has remained largely unchanged throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, retaining its authentic character, which contributes to its charm.
Visits to the Château…
The château, inhabited until 2018, is now partly converted into seasonal rentals and partly open to the public from Easter to All Saints' Day.
The current owners, Isabelle and Florence Lebon-Hénault, lead these tours.
As part of the Château en Fêtes (Château Festival), they welcome guests to the grand salon for a refined and convivial candlelit dinner. During the European Heritage Days, two tours followed by a gourmet aperitif are organized. The château has served as a film and television location on three occasions. It was also the setting for a sound and light show, "Magic in the Night," entirely created by local volunteers.
The château and its gardens are visible from the public road.
Also worth seeing during your visit is a magnificent collection of 18th-century earthenware.
