On the road from Béziers to Puissalicon, in the cemetery of this medieval commune, dominates a magnificent Lombard-style bell tower built in the 10th century.
Standing 26 m high, it was the tower of a church that no longer exists: Saint Etienne de Pézan. Today, it's a singular obelisk whose decoration is characterized by floors separated by cornices, and oculi in the upper part surrounded by alternating basalt rocks, like the various bays enclosed in Lombard bands.
The Tower was listed as a historic monument in Prosper Mérimée's earliest registers.
The medieval village of Pissalicon, built in concentric circles around the feudal castle and 12th-century Gothic church, is well worth a visit for its ancient windmill and numerous wine cellars.
A visit to the Cathar city of Minerve is a must.
