Following in the footsteps of Asterix and Mickey Mouse, Spirou now has his own theme park.
A group of fairground professionals have invested 40 million euros to design a family leisure park on the outskirts of Avignon.
The Spirou theme park, dedicated to the comic book heroes published by Dupuis, opened on 1 June 2018, just as the famous bellboy in his red uniform celebrates his 80th birthday this year.
On an 8-hectare site, acquired for 4 million euros from the Sorgues du Comtat Community of Communes, the company has installed an initial batch of twelve attractions: nine mechanical rides designed by the German fairground entertainment giant Zierer, and three digital attractions designed by the British firm Simworx, a renowned world leader in 3D and 4D simulators for the leisure industry.
Particular care has been taken with the 1950s-style scenery.
Some of the buildings are modelled on the comic books, such as the Moustic Hotel, and visitors will encounter the famous characters Marsupilami, Lucky Luke, Fantasio and Zorglub.
Total investment: 40 million euros, predominantly funded by the company Parexi.
It comprises amusement park professionals and private investors, as well as Gamepa, Blue Finance, the Belgian Moorkens family and bpifrance.
As the owner of Dupuis, Media Participation also provides the licence for the park’s characters.
Following its opening, Parc Spirou still planned to invest each year in the acquisition of one or two new attractions per year, with the aim of offering a total of 25 attractions within six years.
The company anticipated a total investment of 80 million over the long term.
Parc Spirou received two awards in September 2026:
- Europe’s New Theming 2026 for NARUTO – Konoha Land, the new immersive world dedicated to Naruto.
- Europe’s New Coasters 2026 for Kyûbi Unchained, the park’s new attraction.
These two awards recognise the work of the teams at Parc Spirou Provence and the investments made to develop ever more immersive and spectacular experiences.
With NARUTO – Konoha Land, Europe’s first area entirely dedicated to the world of Naruto, and Kyûbi Unchained, the park is continuing to expand its offering and pursue its ambition to establish itself as a leisure destination in its own right.
This double European award recognises the new attractions launched by Parc Spirou Provence in 2026.
