The Rouillé Sewing Machine Museum is a private collection of over 300 sewing machines, from 1830 to the present day, along with antique needles and lithographs.
It notably features a richly decorated Floride sewing machine from 1871. This rare model was produced in limited numbers.
Among the countless curiosities: the first sewing machine to come out of the Peugeot workshops in Audincourt in the 1830s, the "Colombe" manufactured by Cazenave in Saintes, and the "Dohis et Robert" from 1882, marvelously ingenious but produced in only four copies, two of which were intended for bankers to compensate them for a short-lived investment!
Another rare piece is the "Comtesse" sewing machine, produced in 1889, in a limited run of 64.
And also a clinic
The Museum also houses one of the few sewing machine clinics, perhaps even the only one.
The Ollivier brothers took over from their father, Jean-Marie, who founded this sewing machine clinic in Rouillé over 40 years ago.
They have repaired machines from all over the world, from the United States to the Emirates.
They are now known worldwide and have registered their "CMC" trademark with the French National Institute of Industrial Property. They market their own machines, which they assemble themselves according to their customers' needs.
