In 1984, the famous “Hooded Lady”, a statuette carved from mammoth ivory, was discovered in Brassempouy, in the Landes region of France.
This statuette, considered to be the oldest known representation of a human face, is thought to have been carved some 25,000 years ago.
Today, this work of art can be admired at the Maison de la Dame, which invites visitors to discover this fabulous story and gain a better understanding of the daily life of prehistoric man in the Upper Palaeolithic (-35,000 - -10000).
The Maison de la Dame also features a fine collection of tools, ornaments, engravings and statuettes.
Alongside it, the ArchéoParc recreates prehistoric landscapes, animals and gestures. Every day, visitors are treated to demonstrations of flint knapping and fire-making. They can also try their hand at thruster hunting.
During the vacation season (zone A), workshops are offered in parietal painting, habitat construction, adornment, archaeological excavation and sculpture. A digital application on a touch-sensitive tablet completes this adventure in the footsteps of Cro-Magnon!
