Located in Peyrusse-Massas, in the Gers department, the Jardin Carnivore is a very special garden, consisting of a series of peat bogs criss-crossed by a pathway that allows visitors to get close to carnivorous plants.
This area boasts one of the world's largest collections of carnivorous plants, with over 450 species... with jaws, glue or suction.
The starting point for this adventure came to Jean-Jacques Labat when, as a child, he got his first carnivorous plant from the newspaper Pif Gadget.
In 1986, he set up the Nature et paysage nursery, then the Jardin carnivore.
Today it features a reception chalet, a discovery greenhouse, a video room and the carnivorous garden.
The visit begins with a film on the fascinating world of carnivorous plants, explaining the intimate life of these plants.
Equipped with audio guides in different languages, your tour continues with an outdoor presentation of the different species planted in mini peat bogs containing several hundred plants.
A guide will then reveal the secrets of their cultivation as you tour the Nature et Paysages nursery, stopping off at various points to see the different phases of plant production and conservation.
The tour ends in a greenhouse featuring the jewels of the CCVS-approved national collection of carnivorous plants. This collection is also one of the largest in the world.
A plant sales outlet brings your tour to a close.
