Malvirade Castle, the misguided one…

Listed as a Historic Monument,  Malvirade Castle, so named by the Romans because it was "badly oriented," is located south of Marmande and has enjoyed a rich history over the centuries.

Originally, there was only a single tower, built at the request of Eleanor of Aquitaine.

It wasn't until the second half of the 15th century, during the first French Renaissance, that the entire complex was erected or renovated.

Then, in the following century, Malvirade received visits from Henry IV, who often came to hunt there in the company of Agrippa d'Aubigné, Madame de Maintenon's grandfather. Malvirade experienced the eight Wars of Religion that France endured.

In the 17th century, a wing was renovated and French-style gardens were planted.

Since 1990, Joël and Françoise Cuvillier have owned the property and have undertaken extensive renovations, allowing it to host tours, cultural events, weddings, seminars, and guest rooms.
