The Museum of Automata and Modeling

The first museum of its kind in France, the Musée des Automates et modèles réduits de La Rochelle presents prestigious pieces by the greatest masters.
The museum of automatons and scale models, with its two vast exhibition rooms, covering more than 1800m², offers more than 300 characters in movement: old and contemporary automatons, animated display cases, historical scene....
Antique figurines come from all over Europe and have required nearly 30 years of research.
Several themes are in the spotlight, "old automatons" (before 1900), "advertising automatons" (1920 to 1950), historical re-enactments and animated displays in department stores.
The visit offers a reconstruction of the "Montmartre" district where painters and musicians come alive in a 1900s atmosphere, the presentation of many reproductions: cars, old boats... and a sound and light show recounting the great hours of navigation.
Finally, the railway circuits allow you to relive your childhood dreams.
To create this Museum, it was necessary to visit auction houses, antique dealers, and department store attics in Paris, London and Berlin to build up this vast collection, piece by piece.
