Inside a small town hall typical of the 1930s, visitors can tour the old schoolhouse, offering a glimpse into the past of the hamlet of Les Valayans, part of the municipality of Pernès-les-Fontaines, and its residents.
These memories of youth, sometimes tinged with nostalgia, are thus brought back to life.
The days of the village school, with its oak desks, built-in earthenware inkwells, violet ink, pen holders, and Sergent-Major nibs that traced the thick and thin strokes, the teacher’s desk, the stove, the geography maps...
The days of the Certificate of Studies, that prestigious exam, the dunce cap, blotting paper, good conduct points, and picture cards...
You will discover:
the exceptional uniforms of the “school battalions” established after the 1870 war,
a classroom with its desks, inkwells and quill pens, notebooks and textbooks, and wall maps used for learning,
the teaching methods employed and how students experienced their schooling in the past.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to discover (or recall) the daily life of a child on a farm in the last century.
Free admission
