The Château de Beaucens, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, is home to one of the world's finest collections of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. Kites, vultures, eagles, eagles, falcons and buzzards rub shoulders with parrots in summer.
Visitors can observe and photograph them at close quarters, as most are presented without cages or bars, using traditional falconry techniques.
Each species has around fifty representatives, whose biology is explained on scrolls.
Every afternoon, from April to the end of September, an exceptional animal show, set to music, presents these lords of the skies in complete freedom.
Only a long and difficult art, inherited from the falconers of the Middle Ages: affaitage or training, based on patience and gentleness, allows us to admire these magnificent birds.
Every summer, the parrots come to rest on visitors' hands, free in the sky.
The 1h30 tour of the site includes :
- a historical site, the feudal castle of Beaucens, dating from the 11th century
- an original, educational presentation of the world's largest collection of birds of prey (over 45 species)
- a beautiful animal show set to music.
Open daily from April to the end of September.
