Nimes, Roman city forever...

Nîmes is a city known worldwide for the beauty and exceptional conservation of its Roman monuments.

The Roman monuments contribute greatly to forging the identity of Nîmes. Erected 2,000 years ago, the Maison Carrée, a temple dedicated to Lucius and Caius, the adopted sons and grandsons of Augustus, the arenas, the Mecca of the famous féria, the "castellum aquae" and the remains of the Roman walls are rightly the pride of the people of Nîmes and the happiness of visitors.

Six museums including the Museum of Romanity

Nîmes has six museums, housed either in buildings protected as Historic Monuments (the Museum of Old Nîmes in the former Episcopal Palace, the Museum of Natural History and the Archaeological Museum in the Jesuit quadrilateral) or in buildings designed to house a museum (the Museum of Fine Arts in 1907, Carré d'Art Museum of Contemporary Art whose architect was Sir Norman Foster in 1993).

The Musée de la Romanité, located opposite the arenas, is the work of Elizabeth de Portzamparc and houses 25,000 pieces, including 5,000 works, and benefits from an innovative scenography.

And also...

Labelled City of Art and History, Nîmes also offers a beautiful old town centre with many mansions, real wonders of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, witnesses of a rich past.

We will not forget the Tour Magne, the Porte Auguste and the Porte de France, evidence of the city's ancient walls, the temple of Diane the aqueduct of Nîmes...

How not to also visit the Jardins de la Fontaine, Europe's first public garden, which consists of two landscape architectures, a classical 18th century garden and a Mediterranean garden in landscape style.
