Angles-sur-l'Anglin is surely the most beautiful village of the Vienne. It is composed of an upper town and a lower town and shelters, notably in the Sainte-Croix district, superb tiled houses and a beautiful Romanesque church. Its narrow, steep and picturesque streets such as l'Arceau, la Cueille invite you to stroll along as well as medieval places with evocative names such as the "Tranchée des Anglais", the "Huche Corne", the "Maison du Cardinal La Ballue"?
Dating from the 11th century, the Fortress of Angles, a "must" of the village, stands on a rocky promontory, rising more than 40m above the waters of the Anglin.
Even today, after a very eventful history, it still offers visitors majestic ruins. From the top of one of its towers one can admire a superb panorama of the Anglin valley, classified as a "Natura 2000" natural site.
Also to be discovered in this village, its craftsmen and especially the workshop of the "Days of Angles" which produces fine embroidery on pulled threads.
Finally, you can't miss the Roc aux Sorciers Interpretation Center which presents in an unusual and original way the prehistoric fresco discovered in Angles-sur-l'Anglin in 1950.
This fresco is considered to be the most important in the world of the Magdalenian sculpted period.
